01 — The suburbMoving in Waverley

Waverley is the suburb the beach is named after, tucked inland on the back streets between Bondi Junction and the coast — the quieter, more residential side of the Bondi hill. Its housing is a genuine mix: by the ABS count flats are just over half, with a big share of period semis and terraces and a smaller run of freestanding houses on the streets climbing toward the ridge. That makes it two jobs in one suburb. The terraces and semis are the classic narrow-hall, steep-straight-stairs carry where a wardrobe gets measured against the landing turn or taken apart; the walk-up flats are a stairs-and-timing job; and the few houses up the hill add driveway and carry distance. Parking is easier here than down on Campbell Parade but still tightens near Bondi Junction. As everywhere in Waverley Council, no permit is issued to a removal truck, so it is a scouted legal spot and the loading exemption. We crew a Waverley move to the actual building, because the suburb has all three kinds.

02 — AccessWhat we plan around

Every Waverley move starts with the access — it decides the truck, the crew and the timing more than anything else. The field notes for this suburb:

  • Just over half flats (ABS 2021), with a strong share of period semis and terraces
  • Inland back-streets between Bondi Junction and the coast — quieter than the beachfront
  • Terraces mean narrow halls and steep straight stairs; big items are turned or dismantled
  • In Waverley Council, so no removal-truck permit — a scouted legal spot plus the loading exemption

03 — ParkingParking and permits in Waverley Council

This is the fact that shapes every Bondi move: Waverley Council does not issue a parking permit to a removal truck. Its permits — including the 7-day Tradesperson permit (about $110.50) — cannot go to a vehicle over 4.5 tonnes or, for the relevant types, longer than 7.5 metres, which rules out any full-size Pantech. A Works Zone is no help either: those are built for construction (9 metres of kerb or more, 13 weeks or more, weeks of lead time and a $20m insurance requirement), not a one-day house move. So the realistic and legal approach is the one we use every day: park the truck legally, scout the best loading position before the day, and rely on the NSW loading exemption — under Road Rules 2014 (rule 200) a removal truck may stop longer than an hour while it is actively loading or unloading. Resident and visitor permits help your car, not the truck. If you are unsure what applies on your street, we will help you check with Council on (02) 9083 8000. (Permit costs and rules are Council's and can change — confirm current figures with Waverley.)

05 — QuestionsWaverley moves, answered

What kind of move is a Waverley one — flat or house?

It depends on the street, which is why we ask first. Waverley is genuinely mixed: just over half flats by the ABS count, plus a big share of period terraces and semis and a few freestanding houses up toward the ridge. A terrace is a narrow-hall, steep-stair carry; a walk-up is a stairs-and-timing job; a house adds driveway and carry distance. We crew each differently.

Do you dismantle furniture for Waverley terraces?

Yes, when the staircase needs it. Waverley's terraces and semis have narrow halls and steep straight stairs with tight first-floor landings, so a bed or a flat-pack wardrobe is often faster and safer taken apart and reassembled upstairs than forced around the turn. We bring the tools and make that call on the day.

Is parking easier in Waverley than at Bondi Beach?

Generally yes — it is the quieter, more residential side of the hill, away from the beach crowds — but it still tightens up near Bondi Junction. We scout a legal loading spot and time the truck the same way. Waverley Council does not permit removal trucks, so it is legal parking plus the NSW loading exemption across the whole suburb.

How much does a Waverley move cost?

Our online-quote rates start at $200/hour for two movers and a truck ($250 for three, $400 for a larger crew with two trucks), and you get a clear indicative quote up front for your specific move. No surprises on the day.
